Holestein Calf sickness

I have a holestein calf that will be weaned by the end of the week. He has always been very active , curious very spunky. He is a big calf. 3 days ago his eyes started dripping water like he was crying. He has become very shy goes to the back of his stall doesn't act like he is interested in any of us or the other calves. We have 10 total and he is our biggest one. He is eating now but when this started he didn't eat he only took a bottle of milk. We checked his temp today and it is 103.4 , not sure if that was considered high. It looks like his eyes are bugged out kind of. So after 3 days my husband gave him a shot of LA 300 and he does seem a little better but still not his usual self, still staying away from everyone staying to the back of his stall. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

On three occasions i have squirted la200 directly into the eye twice a day at 12 hour intervals. This practice always fixed eye problems in baby calves. your call, Topside

Are you treating this as pinkeye?

Normal calf temp is 101.5, so 103.4 would indicate, to me, that something is going on...perhaps the LA-200 will take care of whatever it is, but I'd keep an eye (no pun intended) on this calf, take his temp again, check his appetite, and see how he behaves. I wouldn't wean him until he recovers from whatever this is.

My answer was not based on the animals temp. My advice is based on an eye infection or injury.....G. Seddon also has great advice regarding the animals temp. LA-200 is a very ineffective product for real infections....I use Baytril whenever I'm getting worried about an animals health.....Just my opinion.
