Update on Norm the Brangus bull...

Thanks to all who advised and spoke plainly about my 2 year old red Brangus bull. I wanted to update, as so many had replied to my posts.

Norm is in Happy Bull Heaven. No, I didn't slaughter him, I loaned him to my neighbor:-). He is currently with 5 heifers, never bred. (Give me a little room on the terminology, I have not dealt with cattle as much as I have horses. Is a heifer just called a heifer until she is bred once, then she is called a first time heifer until she is bred the second time, then she is a first time cow? Ok, let me know on that.)

He will stay with them for the winter, and he will also be introduced to two cows that live in the adjoining pasture. They share a fence line and have opened a gate so all can travel back and forth on those pastures. We didn't exchange any money, I let them use Norm in exchange for his feed through the winter. They also branded him with our brand for me, and helped me with his vaccines. I think that is MORE than a fair trade for the service of a good bull. The man who came to see him was floored by how nice this guy is. He couldn't get over my bulls size or gentleness. He may offer to keep him at the end of the winter, that would be ok with me, I know he is in good hands.

Thank you again to all who answered and helped me in this situation. I am new to cattle somewhat, learned a lot with your help.

Heifer until first calf hits the ground, then that year is a "first-calf heifer." Then cow. I think. Yay for Norm.
