First-time mother?

Any means to get cow in a pen and restrain, then assist calf in nursing?

Can you milk out the cow and bottle-feed colostrum to the calf; it should get colostrum ASAP!

What G. Seddon said, and my two cents... The mother should start licking the calf soon after birth. The licking, especially on the the back, causes a suckle response from the calf and they find their way to the teats. It's been a little over an hour since you put up your post. How are they doing?

Sure is good to know that cow and calf have bonded nicely, or maybe not? Giving out free experienced advice can sometimes be rewarding, or maybe not? Undoubtedly the calf got hungry enough, suckled, and the state of panic subsided. Sure hope I'm right, I may never know....Topside

They're both nice looking and healthy. Congratulations. They're going to be fine. It won't be long and you'll be competing against the calf for your share of the milk. hahaha!
