Oregano Oil dilution ration for mastitis

title should be dilution ratio - not ration....

Hi,
My brother uses a product called uddersol on his dairy cows for mastitis. He says it works great. The ingredients are olive oil and origanum oil. I've been researching essential oils for the past 6 months and told him he could make his own for a tenth of the price...

But. my question is what dilution ratio do I tell him to use? the local health food store looked up an article online that said 2% dilution, but also indicated using other eo's - not oregano. I can't find the article myself now that I have access to a computer.

2% is the normal dilution for adults when making blends for people. Is this dilution safe for animals? I know oregano oil is considered to be a hot oil and should be diluted even more than the normal - at least down to a 1% but is that necessary for the cow?.....

thanks

Last fall after my jerseycalfed I would rub her udders and teats down with a very diluted amount of ooo in coconut oil. I think I used four or five drops in about a quarter cup. At first I used more and it hurt here and she balked at it and got mad at me so I cut the ooo down to just a few drops. Sorry for being so vague but it did work...

Here's a bit of it. It worked well for us HTH!
"... I discovered the second one being chunky milk and hard, but I had no more special formula, so I used oregano, diluted 15 drops in 9 ml of X virgin olive oil, and that quarter cleared up right away (better in the morning). The quarter that got special formula took longer for some reason. I used oregano in that one too on subsequent days. 20 drops in 9 ml, which I gave her twice a day for 2 days. I also massaged her with bag balm (the green can, icky stuff, I hate it). I cleaned well and disinfected the special formula syringe and used it for the infusions of oregano (cleaning and disinfecting between treatments of course)..."

We used oregano oil in olive oil on our organic place and we sure did have a lot of 3 titters.
I didn't think it did much other than make our milking parlor smell like a pizza parlor.

Thanks ana
That's why I'm worried about the ratio - Oregano oil can burn if not diluted enough.

Thanks May - I saw that article also. Glad to know it worked. However, I'm concerned about how high the ratio is.... Did you use it as a rub or as an injection?

Thanks Sammy - He's been using a product that contains oregano oil with good results....

In my op, I said it should be diluted to 2% for humans, that's actually still too high - should be 1% which comes out to approx 1/2 teaspoon oregano oil in 1 cup olive oil. I think I'm going to have him try that formula the next time and see how it goes. I might also get him some additional antibiotic eo's that aren't considered "hot" to add to the blend.
I've also come across some other remedies - such as 5-10 drops of oregano oil in their feed twice a day; 1 T ACV in their feed twice a day; 5 grams a day of vit c; other oils including cinnamon (which is also hot), peppermint and tea tree.

Thanks again everyone!
