Weaning advice

I'm weaning a 5 month old dexter angus cross. Right now the calf is in the barn and the cow is about 150 feet away in a pasture. I can move the cow next to the barn so they can see each other. Is it better to keep them apart and bawling at each other across the pasture or each on one side of a tube gate?

Calves can easily stick their head through a tube gate to nurse.
The mama cow will stand right up and make it easy.
You really have to keep them apart.

The bawling usually only lasts 3 days.
haypoint and AngusLover like this.
