Safest Pour On Fly Control For Nursing Cow

I have a month old calf and lactating mother.

Both are bothered by flies all day.

I'd love to have something non-chemical if anyone knows of anything.

Tractor Supply carries Permethrin and Prolate/Linox.

Any recommendations?

If you can find a Pyrethrin-based solution, try it. Pyrethrin would be considered organic. I'm not a friend of chemicals, either, but have still opted for a permethrin-based non-organic fix for flies, because they overwhelm this time of year and can drag a lactating cow down hard.

BOSS is a brand that is safe for lactating cows.

I haven't tried them myself yet, but have heard a lot of recommendations for fly predators. And of course if you do good manure management you will help lessen the fly load in the first place.

Then use a spray or rub to take care of what's left. We used a pyrethrin based insecticide on a rub.

The best pour-on for lactating cows is Eprinex.

We use No Fly oil-base spray, full strength, with a regular garden-type sprayer (a large one with a back harness - we have a large herd of Dexters). It's pricey, but it does work and we don't worry as much as we would with a more chemical-based product. We get ours from Crystal Creek http://crystalcreeknatural.com/shop/livestock/no-fly/ We try to stay as organic/natural as possible.
