New calf today!

So I bought a half jersey half highlander last fall. She was bred to a half Hereford half belted Galloway. Finally after months of waiting she freshened this morning. He's a very spunky healthy bull calf. I was toying with the idea of milking her but thought I would wait a day or two to see how much the calf is drinking. Am I on the right train of thought? Or should I milk her sooner?

I would personally jump in and start milking her. She will be use to it from the start. She will make enough for the both of you.

IF you are going to milk, 3 days is good. Let the calf get all the colostrum, let the cow get her feet under her. Separate the 2 and go for it. Very slowly add some grain to relax her for milking and increase her production. First week I don't milk cow completely out, but get most, then after the week, strip her dry. Less chance of milk fever....James
