Pasture for Jersey?

We are getting our families first milk cow in about 3 weeks. We are building a small barn for her and fencing off an area with poly hot wire. The area that we have that is grown up pretty good is wheat, alfalfa, rape, and med red. I had planned for that to be for the pasture pigs but it didn't work out this year and they are going to stay in the lot since they will be ready for freezer soon. Is this kind of mix something she will do ok on? I plan to get some grasses in it this fall. Also, am I better off getting a beef calf to keep her company, she is running with 30 head or so now?

The area you have picked out for her sounds fine and she should do great.

Cattle are a herd animal and prefer to be in the company of other cattle. If you have another animal you can put in with her, they should both do good compared to being alone.

Don't know what she was eating. Might want to ease her into the pasture slowly. Pretty hot feed....James
