Dewormers

What kinda wormers do yall find helpful and easy to use on your cattle? How often do yall deworm your cattle? Also do you need a chute to be able to deworm them? I've read that some people don't use chutes.

I used ivomec pour on this spring, I do not have a chute only a loading chute I just loaded them in one at a time, poured on and turned them back out into the grass. I was told by my uncle I should worm again in the fall but use a shot instead, I plan to do that or use the dewormer blocks. It is my understanding you should use different dewormers so the worms do not build a resistance. I am sure a more experienced cattle raiser will chime in soon.

Ivan, I'm only a hobby farmer and almost never worm my cattle. With that said you must also understand that my cattle have plenty of land to graze and very few remain on by farm past the age of 24 moths. Not sure how many acres and head numbers you have or whether you are raising cattle for fun, food or profit. When I do worm I use Cydectin pour on, down their backs while they are occupied eating grain. Topside

I like this product to for the short withdrawl time. I used a cheaper product on an injured cow last fall and had to keep her for 48 days longer than I wanted to. She got babied and fed for two months before I could get her in the freezer.

Bret, cydectin is what I give my goats at kidding time, when it becomes expired that's when I dump it on the calves. The short milking withdraw time is the other reason I use this product.....Take care,,,Topside

Topside; I have about 6 1/2 acres more than half of it they graze on and there are 2 steers, and 2 heifers with 2 ewes and 4 lambs. Have you had any problems with yours cows not being wormed? And is it fine not to worm em?

Ivan, you have an overgrazing situation, not that that's wrong. Yes if I were you I'd be worming twice a year at least. I don't worm my few cattle because of the head to acre ratio. All livestock have internal parasites, some dormant some active. Worming does not kill all. In your setting I believe you must worm....Topside
