minerals to calves

I have free choice minerals and a trace mineral block in my pasture. I have a three week old calve on its mother that I noticed was eating quite a bit of the loose minerals. Is this ok? I have taken the loose minerals out of the pasture until I know its ok. I have never noticed any of the other calves eating them.

We have always just dumped out trace mineral blocks and left them. The calves come by and waller on them and lick them and it's fine.
