Shout out from Colorado!!!!

I feel I should introduce myself. My name is Lucas. I live on the front range of CO. I'm 23 years old and I'm going to CSU for organic agriculture and fermentation. My partner (Jon) and I plan on starting a farm when I get out of school. We plan on raising dairy cattle to selling raw milk shares. As well as a wide variety of vegetables. I've been following this forum for years and never really put myself out there. So there ya go! Have a great day all!

Welcome to HT! We like talking dairy and beef in here.

What sort of challenges are unique to a western state organic dairy farmer?

We plan on farming in Oregon. Not sure what part of the sate we would live in. I grew up on a farm in Iowa. I've got the farming fever! Lol

If you like rain, and not much sun through the year, in a place where it's green most all year long, go west of the Cascades.

If you want drier weather, where there's likely to be some snow, go to eastern Oregon. May not be anymore sun there, but not so rainy, and maybe a bit warmer in summer. It won't look as green as west of the Cascades, but for spring and summer till August when the native and pasture grasses are dried out..
