Guernsey bull calf losing fur?

My calf is about nine months old, and has patches of fur where I can see his skin.

Anyone know what that might be about? It's time for cattle here to begin shedding winter coats, but I've never seen one do it like this.

Sure sounds like lice. After a winter in the barn you will often see a bit of lice, particularly on yearling heifers (I think the lice like them cause they are fat and juicy) but it usually clears up with some sun and fresh air. you can also get a powder to kill them www.barrier-biotech.com/​product.php?pid=LP or domvet.com/dusting.html, I've never had to use it so don't know how well it works.

I agree ---- lice. I'm not familiar with the barrier-biotech product, but a good pour-on will work too. You should see improvement (less scratching) and new hair growth within a couple of weeks.

Deworm them and it gets rid of the lice.( Pour on or fly killer.)
