Thinking of selling family cow

We are seriously thinking of selling our Jersey cow. She will be four years old in April. Clover comes when called, leads, loads into a trailer, and is friendly. I have milked her by hand and by machine in a homemade stanchion. Here's the thing...

Due to my health problems last year we did not get her AI'd after she had her current calf. We have AI'd her twice in the past. First calf was a little jersey steer. Second calf is her current one and is half jersey and half black angus. Both babies came with no problems, she did it all by herself and both have been nice strong calves. We butchered the first steer and are currently finishing him up (Delicious!)

The major issue I have is that we cannot use all the milk this girl can put out, even with only milking once a day. it is just the two of us. I finally stopped milking (again with the health problems...grr) Her milk is wonderfully sweet and thick with cream.

I realize that whoever purchases her will have to wait nine months after breeding or Ai for any milk. I am willing to set a very fair price for her because of that with the condition that she goes to a family that needs a friendly milk cow and not a dairy farm. That is why we have not listed her.

Anyone out there interested in a nice family cow?

Hi!

I'm looking for a Jersey to be a family cow for us and we are in Wisconsin! Whereabouts in WI are you located?

Thanks!

Hi Kim,
We are in the stateline area, between Janesville and Beloit. Looks like we are about 3 hours from you.

Just piping in to offer some encouragement. I hope all goes well with the sale, transport, and new routine. I happen to be in the market for one more Jersey, but I'm a few zipcodes away.

Sure will. She is a sweetheart. She actually made it into the calendar one year for september with my grandson. I think it was 2012. She is registeredwith the Amercian Jersey Assoc. I have some pics from April 2012 just before she had her first calf and one of her and her first in January 2013. I will try to get a current one for you too.The last one shows her "little" steer in front and Clover in the back behind him.

Here is another pic of Clover in 2013 right after she had her calf. I think this was about one week old for the calf which is on the ground next to her. The little holstein was one we bought to help with the milk and save from a dairy farmer who chained him (see the horrible marks on his legs!!) She has a great udder!

We are only asking 1000.00 for her as we know she needs to be bred and you will have a nine month wait. If I can catch her next heat, I will probably get her AI'd. Such a rotten time of year......BTW: here is the picture that made it into The Homesteadingtoday Calendar!

StarofHearts, you are so kind. Just remember, she is still here....

This is one of my most favorite pictures of my grandson, Isaac. He loves to give Clover "cookies", apples, and scratches. It was a color pic and I changed it to black and white because it just looked so right that way.

I would seriously be driving to you if I had more the .23 acres in the suburbs. Oy. My husband is *God willing* getting a new job that will requires us to move but we have NO idea where to, just that it should be in the 50 states but it could be in the territories too. We are praying for Kentucky. We're in Michigan now.

Thanks, I really want to be able to rent a little farm out in Kentucky so I can get started with my homesteading dreams. we should know by June where we are being sent (assuming he gets the job). I am soooo tired of waiting to hear back, but its a government job and the government loves its bureaucracy. :P lol Good luck placing Clover in a good home!

Oh, I wish I could get her, but I'm in MT. If I were going to be making a trip home to MN any time soon I'd do the extra miles to get her. Good luck in finding her a great home.

Oh Aziel! I miss Montana so much! I lived there for a while in the mid 80's and absolutely loved it. I was in the Butte/Anaconda area. I still think it is the prettiest place on earth. I always say that if I could pick up my farm, critters, and family, i would be there in a sec

Sure wish someone was traveling from Wisconsin to Nebraska. She sounds like a perfect cow.

Yes, she is still available to a family homestead only. I do not want her to go to a dairy or for butcher. She is a really sweet cow who has proven herself with milk and beautiful calves. Thanks for your interest! ♥
