Sim/Angus

I have a Sim/Angus, (half and half) that is growing horns. Aren't Simmental and Angus supposed to both be polled breeds?

A polled animal can produce horned offspring if they are not homozygous for the polled trait. Angus should be homozygous polled but are you sure the Angus parent was purebred? Simmental started out with horns but somewhere along the trail they must have had a "miracle mutation" because they have fullbloods that are polled now.

Agreed, bac when I first started seeing Simmental they looked a lot like non polled hereford, same color, samr horns. Then somewhere along the way you started seeing a lot more black, very little if any white markings and polled. If the Angus parent was pure, you will most likley not get full horns, just scurs which are not really atached to the scull and don't get big and hard like horns.
I have a Charolais/Angus just about a year old that I can feel scurs on, sort of feel like horns, but are only about half an inch and have to dig through the hair to see them. If you get full horn then the Angus parent was not pure.
