Brand sizing

Just got my brand registered, I want to weld up some irons!
I have heard everything from 2" to 6" letters, smaller is better for hide value but 2" seems pretty small. Times are always changing so what is the current style?

How big is your brand?

Are you branding cows or calves?
Where is the mark to be located on the animal?
What is the mark?
I've built hot and freeze irons for a long time. There are several things that can be done to lessen blotching.
If branding calves the mark will grow with the animal.
PM me if you would prefer.
I'm happy to help if I can.

There are requirements for size.

(2) Each brand for use on cattle is to measure at least 75 millimetres in height
and 50 millimetres in width when applied to an animal.

So you are looking at 3" in height and 2" in width

I think that depends what state/country you are in. It should say on your brand papers what the recomended size is. Here its 4" high and 1" wide for each number or letter.

Thanks guys, brand is a simple 2 letters on the shoulder. If there are specific tips regarding letters could you PM me and we will talk, I am of the generation that doesn't like giving out my exact identification online.
But I like to discuss otherwise in the open so all can benefit from the discussion.
I have some extra pasture my sheep operation doesn't need yet and was thinking of buying a few calves and backgrounding them to learn about cattle and try to make a couple bucks.
So calves then for now, someday I may get into cow/calf if I get my facilities set up for it.

Edit: looks like Randi lives in my province and may even be "close by" by prairie standards. Thanks for the PDF, I missed that while filling out my forms. Looks like 3x2 for the entire brand? Small compared to many I've seen.

I think that would be 3"x2" for each character. So if your brand were say JK that would be 3" high by about 5-6" wide. OTOH if it were a J over K that would be 2" wide by 7 or 8" high. Of course it will also depend on the characters, after all a I is a lot narrower than a D.
