How to lease land for cattle?

I was told by a friend that my 80 acres in the desert with water rights would work for about 10 cattle and I could also lease some land nearby to allow myself to have even more. How do you lease land from the BLM? Is it bidding or do you just buy a permit? What is the average price? Requirements?

I don't know what BLM is but I'd ask them.

It would help a lot if you said where it is you are located. Each area has a different way of doing things. Like here I can get it for paying the taxes for the year. Does not tell you anything does it. here in central ky. also here that 80 acres would support about 100 head so that is a different ballgame all together. Hope this helps you get the info you need. Not trying to be mean or anything just pointing out the lack of info.

I know that BLM stands for the Bureau of Land Management,
so I assume you are out west somewhere.

Talk to some ranchers in your area, they will know all the hoops to jump through.

Can't he just contact them? In MO conservation rents out some ground by taking silent bids. Quite a few regulations on it though.

Should be able to find contact info on the net and go from there

She! Yeah I will contact them... Was just curious if anyone here had insight or tips. Didn't know it's so different across areas.
