Been a LONG year!

Well I have posted much in a long time. As Topside stated in a post must be winter time on the farm.
Seems like work was never ending again. Crops looked good but a dry spell mid summer shorted us on corn and hay again this yr. Not near as bad as last. Got the up right silo full (14x40) plus 1 1/2 flat sheet bags done(32x100, 32x20) of corn silage.
As for the cattle its been rough. Lost my old cow Bagel to lighting. SHe was pushing 18 yrs old. SOld a couple more due to age and not bred. Now looking at moving a bunch of young stock. Just not enough shed room for them this winter. Had a interesting time with heifers on pasture this year. Took 21 to pasture brought 27 home plus left one at the neighbors. 7 calves born 6 heifers 1 bull. This was the worse summer yet for the pasture we rent. High infestation of ticks on the cattle this yr. May be looking at doing a 1-2 mid summer application of insecticide on them next yr.
Now everyone is at home snug in the cold December we are having. I am just having fun trying to keep the tractor and skid steer working. I replaced the drive unit on the barn cleaned about 3 weeks ago. Lucked out and got a almost new 560 badger from a junkman for $20. 4 days later I busted ours pretty bad. So it all works out. I am just hating the thought of strating the up right silo. That unloaded can be a pain.
So beside being busy I was pretty bummed out this summer at my losses. Sure miss my old girls. But atleast their youngins are in the herd and working.
Later
Bob

Once again good to see you back on the board. You are a wealth of knowledge for others, and have even helped me in the past. Thanks again Bob, sorry about Bagel....Topside
