Selenium and Vitamin E Gel for Goats

I promise this is my last thread about Selenium, but I would like to know if anyone has used Selenium and Vitamin E Gel for Goats by Kaeco Group, Inc. on calves. I also raise goats and have used this gel on them with good results. I want to know your thoughts on using it for calves, what dosage, age, how often, results, etc. Let me know what you think.

I would share the label with your vet and ask for his/her advice on this. Not what you want to hear, but there it is.....

Always the practical response : ) I will do that as well, but I would like to hear from someone who has actually used it in this manner. I find both sources of info worthy of consideration. Thanks.

You are considering using something on a different species than it was intended for...the dosage, strength, etc. I'm not a veterinarian, but I am cautious with administering something off label and there is no way I would advise anyone to do so.

Sure, that's why I'm trying to find out as much info as I can before I would do it. There are many medications that are intended for cows that are commonly used off label for goats. And you are right, the dosages are often very different. Goats usually require more of a medication because their metabolism is faster. I would never just give this to a cow without talking to several people, including professionals, and checking out as many web-sites as I can. I'm gathering information. I might find out that cows can't tolerate this. Or, I might find 15 people, 2 vets and 7 web-sites that say it's awesome. I'll let you know what I come up with.

I know where you're coming from, Farmer Jayne. I raise goats too. I use Bovi Sera (labeled for cattle and sheep) on my goats with great results. I also use some dewormers that are labled for cows, sheep and goats. So I too, wonder what other things in my medicine cabinet can be used in a pinch. I'm curious to hear what you learn. My first cow arrives next week so I'm gathering as much information as I can now. I just now checked my bottle of BO-SE (injectable selenium-vit. E) bottle which my vet prescribed for my goats. It's also labled for calves. I've never used the gel.
