On Calf Watch

My old girl Sulu, she's 8, is in early labor. Of course she is, we have a cold front moving in and 30 mph north winds.

She's my Dexter I had AI'd to a lowline, Mr. Dundee.

We fixed her up a nice spot in the horse shed with two heat lamps so when she has the calf we'll move her in. I'm waiting because she has never been penned up in a stall and I'm concerned it will cause her too much stress trying to get out, if I wait and move the calf in there she'll stay with the calf. And, I won't have as much to clean up.

Checking on her about every hour.....waiting.......checking........

Just got back in from moving Sulu and calf into shed. I think it's a little heifer, totally has her winter coat on!

Was another fun trip with DH "helping". God love him! I called him and told the calf was in the lane but I was moving her back in with mama so he drives through the horse pasture and leaves the gate open. Now 4 horses loose and running, have to lower the electric fence for him to drive into cow pasture, round up the loose horses and close gate. I do really, really appreciate that he is willing to help, but in the mist of the mess I'm not very nice.

Finally get mama and baby into nice snug shed and fed and watered.

Baby is dry and fed.

I think we're all headed to bed.

Pics will be forth coming in the morning.
