Blv?

Just saw this ad on Craigslist. A positive BLV would be bad, right?

Jersey Heifer Calf (8 mos) - $250 (Sherman)
8 month old Jersey heifer calf. 1/2 miniature Jersey, 1/4 Holstein, 1/4 Jersey. Dehorned and vaccinated. BLV positive according to ELISA

A positive BLV would not be good. Read about it:

I guess I'm just baffled why someone would advertise an animal from their herd that has it. I guess that explains the low price. But what good is it that the animal is vaccinated and dehorned if it has such a disease?

I think it's actually pretty common, but it's not believed to affect milk production, and most cows are culled or die due to some other cause before they reach the age where it becomes a problem, so farmers tend not to test for or worry about it.

I think my old cow Twister, who died last year, may have had BLV.
