Wow, this has been a week in my little country neighborhood. I went down my driveway Tuesday evening and found 12 of my neighbor's young steers wondering across the road. Either someone forgot to close their gate or the steers pushed it opened. Being the wonderful cow-girl I am I was able to get them all back in. Called my neighbor just to let him know he might want to check his gate latches. Wednesday morning, heading to town and I glance over and there is one of my other neighbor's bulls out enjoying the greener grass. Since I am NOT that wonderful of a cowgirl, I just called neighbor to let him get that big fellow back in. Friday afternoon I look out the window and the other neighbors cows are running across my hay field. Called that neighbor and helped him get his run-a-way girls back in their pasture.
So......I am just waiting for MY cows to decide to go for a walk-about. I'm checking fences like crazy...this is nuts.

You are a good neighbor.
Surely your own cattle *will* eventually go walkabout and hopefully everyone will be just as kind to you.

I make it a point to do the same thing with my neighbors.
As a result of this, I tend to know whenever any cows are lost or found anywhere up or down this valley.
(I live in thre middle of the valley).
These exchanges have been great to help me when I need to buy hay and for my farmsitting business too.

Yup. We're hosting our neighbor's boar pig yesterday and today until neighbor can find a way to come get him. Fortunately we're familiar with him and he doesn't bother the garden, but in the last year, since he visited last time (something about apples on the ground?) he's gotten bigger and his tusks are more impressive. He's a little intimidating now. He's not as big as a cow, but he's pointier!

I am so glad when other people's cows are wandering about--then I don't feel so bad when I have to go chasing mine. I don't mind helping them put their up either, but just glad its not mine.
