High Mag block for calf
I am raising an auction bottle baby that is now about a month old. He is doing great and growing before my eyes. My question now is about a high mag block. In our area (Kentucky) people put out these blocks since the lush growth (which usually only occurs in the spring , but is all summer long this year) results in magnesium defiency (and often calf death).
My calf spends the day with my currently milking dairy goats, then goes into his own stall every night. Should I give him a high mag block in his stall? I am afraid of letting my goats have access to one. Alot of the stickers on the different livestock blocks warn of dangers to animals if not used correctly. Also they warn you to give access to the blocks in small increments so the animals don't gorge themselves on the block.
I would like to err on the side of caution, but I also don't want to deprive him of something he needs.
