Introducing Miss Barbie-Q!

Our lovely Jersey, Clover, surprised us this am with a fat and sassy little heifer. Miss Barbie - Q is a Jersey/Angus mix and will make a great meat maker. This is our first meat heifer so i am praying she does not get too stinking cute! It is just easier when they are steers....

Yea, she is...I have never seen a calf fall asleep standing up...and then fall right over on their side, lol! Woke her right up too! Clover just gave one of those human Mom looks, "I cannot believe this is mine...!" Destined for beef though. If we needed another cow...maybe, but we sure don't.Oh well, we will love on her and scratch her, and feed her treats just like we do the steers until it is their time.

Just like a steer except you don't have to castrate...

That is exactly what i keep telling myself...lol! Seriously, she is going to be our beef this year. We depend on it. I cannot buy meat from the grocery store...it is too darn scary. The grandkids are all good with it. They have all been taught that we only need one milk cow at a time and the babies are raised for meat. They know they get to play and love on them for a year or so and that is it.

She is cute though...looks like a big ol hershey kiss!

You want to trade a huge 15 week old Holstein boy for her? No use killing a good heifer. Where in wi are you? He would take to nursing her if she would let him. His rear is over 3.5 feet. He weight tapes at over 255. I have milk to bottle feed. Just throwing it out there.

It is not a bad thought myheaven. There would def be a few factors involved. How easy is he to handle, castrated yet, dehorned, etc. We are in southcentral wisconsin. Very close to the stateline area. Our biggest concern would be handling. I have all my steers raised to be extremely gentle and handled alot. I have to as I am the obne who does everything. If you are interested and think he may fit the bill etc, feel free to pm me. It sure does not hurt to investigate it! Thanks for asking either way ♥

Rafter B all our steers are named Burgermeister Meisterburger and all the heifers have been planned to be named Miss Barbie-Q. This is our first beef heifer though. Our full Jersey heifers we register and sell for dairy, usually 4-H kids.

If I can't catch my Guernseys in heat they're going on a month long sleepover with a good looking Angus bull. Guernsey semen will just have to sit in the tank. Darn it.

Your girls are very nice!

Trish ill pm you. Pangea (holstine) is super sweet and well trained. My angus heifer is trained to lead and let my children sit on her. I do not allow snotty animals to live. Period!

looks like we are going to keep Barbie -Q and might be changing her name to just Barbie. My sis has offered to go in halves on her as a milk cow/meat breeder. We would be able to AI her every year with Angus and get a 3/4 Angus calf for beef and she would definately not produce the amount of milk that Clover does as a full young Jersey. We would be finding Clover good homesteading home. She should be pretty easy to sell, three year old, good producer, two beautiful calves to her credit, milks by hand or machine, gentle sweet girl that comes called.
