Thanks, everyone. The cattle are home.
DH and I drove around the neighborhood this morning looking, then drove our fenceline again. This time we found a hole DH hadn't seen before, big enough for them to walk through, and there were lots of tracks.
Field on the other side is a hundred acre parcel that has been on the market for an extended period of time. We called the realtor, who gave us the name of a neighbor up the road we happen to know, who is currently leasing.
Left a message on his phone, and went through the hole to call and look. No luck.
Then DH suddenly felt he should go over to the neighbor's house to find him and talk with him. Neighbor came over and unlocked the gate so that we could drive in, and then we found them pretty quickly, on the far south end of the acreage.
Lucky for me these animals will follow me when I call. DH opened the back of the Expedition and I sat in the back calling them, with them running along behind, until we got back to that hole in the fence, where they followed me through. And DH repaired the fence.
