the cattle are gone

DH saw them when he was working in the field on Saturday. We were away from the farm most of the day yesterday. This evening DD asked me if I'd seen the cattle the last couple of days because when she went to fill their water, it wasn't any lower. In fact I hadn't.

DH went out driving around the fields but when he called to report, it was that they are not there! How can they just be gone?

And also I wonder what we should do next?!

Honestly I was never really that upset about that Wagyu bull disappearing. It was a loss, but I figured if we at least got some calves off him, that was something.

It's too much to lose Bessie and the other cows.

I wonder if I should plan on going to the cattle auction tomorrow just in case they show up there.

Walk your fences to see if they got out. If you do not see where they got out then Look at the area around the gates any tire tracks? Call the police and report it as a theft. Call all neighbors and ask them if they have seen your cattle or anything like trucks with trailers in the area.

Go to the auction but do not expect to see your cattle they usually haul further away than just the local auction.

I hope you find that fence down and can follow them to where ever they went to.

I agree, walk your fence line first. Mine all got out last year and I found them mingled in with my neighbors large herd. They broke through the fence and went for a visit. Took me a while to find them, but luckily with a bunch of grain on the back of the UTV, they all came home pretty easy. I had three steers in my pasture this past weekend and just called my two neighbors to figure out who they belong too.

PLEASE REPORT THIS. Give law enforcement any identifying information, tag numbers, photos, etc. Report it also to feed stores, auctions, neighbors, any place that is remotely cattle related. And let us know here what's going on!

Yes report it asap drive around to other places and ask if they seen them and like others said tell feed stores tell other farmers if you have milking farms tell a couple milk drivers to pass the word along

but first report to police because unless your in farm country most people will call the cops and report cows running down the road and you ddon't want the trigger happy cops around your cows

The ones that recently showed up on my place ended up coming from five miles away so you might expand your search.

Thanks, everyone. The cattle are home.

DH and I drove around the neighborhood this morning looking, then drove our fenceline again. This time we found a hole DH hadn't seen before, big enough for them to walk through, and there were lots of tracks.

Field on the other side is a hundred acre parcel that has been on the market for an extended period of time. We called the realtor, who gave us the name of a neighbor up the road we happen to know, who is currently leasing.

Left a message on his phone, and went through the hole to call and look. No luck.

Then DH suddenly felt he should go over to the neighbor's house to find him and talk with him. Neighbor came over and unlocked the gate so that we could drive in, and then we found them pretty quickly, on the far south end of the acreage.

Lucky for me these animals will follow me when I call. DH opened the back of the Expedition and I sat in the back calling them, with them running along behind, until we got back to that hole in the fence, where they followed me through. And DH repaired the fence.

Mom always said good stories always have happy endings.

I like the fact that I can call my cattle and get them to come too, learned this from my grandfather years ago.
