WHEW! We did it!

I don't post in this thread often but do read a lot and appreciate all of the information and knowledge I've gotten. We have just a small herd (7 females and 1 bull) and are very new to cattle. Hubby works out of state for months at a time and I have been extremely frustrated all summer trying to work the cattle for small things like shots or fly spray. I've discovered that it is near impossible to work cattle by yourself! Anyways, hubby was home this week and we decided to preg check the girls by drawing blood to send to the lab. I checked out youtube for how to's and we were able to successfully draw blood from all of the girls without any major hang-ups. (we do have a chute, alley, etc) And, the best news is that 6 of the 7 are bred and the one that isn't, I unaffectionally call "That Black-eyed Witch" is heading for the sale barn. I've begged hubby to get rid of her earlier because she is just plain crazy, but he thought she'd settle down after she had a calf. Well, she's not bred, so away she goes. I feel better already.

I can relate to your post in many ways. I have learned it isn't worth keeping an animal that is difficult, whether it is a rooster or steer. Dh finally understands after the one steer broke my wrist and kicked me. He went to freezer camp early and I don't think we will ever keep an animal like him again. There are too many good ones and when you are tending to them by yourself it is plain dangerous.
Congrats on the number of bred cows.
