He is our first jerseyXholstein. He has been very disruptive and destructive. So he is being processed on Friday.. He is only 12 months but I dont trust him, and before someone gets hurt off he goes! What would be your recommended hanging time since he isnt very big? Thanks for the help!

I feel that he will be OK with the normal hanging time for your shop with the finish he has... 7-14 days. They may suggest a number of days based on his carcass. Because of his youth, he will not have some of the tougher tissue issues. Fine job.

We just went through the same thing. We had a jersey cross that we were unable to castrate without doing a surgery on. Then he jumped two 5 foot fences to get to the neighbors cows (besides just being a general pain in the tush).....=-(. Took him in two weeks ago. They just hung him for 7 days. I was told by the processor that their just was not enough fat on him and the meat would just start to dry out if we hanged for longer.

Ziptie is right, the hang time is based on back fat thickness and also fat in the kidney, pelvic and heart region. Slaughterhouse advice is best....Topside

No surprise about his disposition. Dairy bulls are infamous for being dangerous and difficult to contain and handle.

I want to say he was a year and four months. I still have yet to pick up the meat. We have been waiting for an another septic guy come give us a quote and he keeps saying he will come but never shows up. Today he is supposed to come between 12 and 2. Almost 2 now... Though they did tell me about 168lbs of hamburger and 14 pks of steaks. Something like that. He did get a small amount of oats daily.
He is the black one in the pic.

Keep us posted!

Lots of hamburger and teeny tiny steaks! Over 100 lbs of burger. He tastes awesome though.

7 to 9 days, nice looking animal and like the others have said, you made the right choice, in sending him to freezer camp.
