Walk out to get Jersey herd 4 evening milking
First I have to introduce my supervisor, Patience my Puggle. She was found on the road about a year ago and was scared of cows at first. Not anymore, now she is the boss!
Herd from afar:
Ace, Milking Shorthorn bull, is on breeding duty this season.
Poptart:
Piper:
Supervising:

Quasy:

Again, supervising:
Smart cows drink *upstream*!
Up the hill:
Past the goat barn:
And onto the holding pen by the parlor:
We have been easing the herd into the fodder idea. They get just a bit of grain now, and a lot of fodder. Here is barley fodder rolls in a bucket.
Fodder torn into bite-sized pieces and scattered over a bit of grain, the barn is ready for the next set of 8 cows.
Happy cows:

BEAUTIFUL herd, and what an idyllic setting. I'd love to have a rocky stream like that. Ivanna's expression is wonderful. Great photo share!

Nice photos. A lovely herd of cows and looks like they live the good life.

She is usually a good cow but with attitude, and very photogenic.

It is awfully pretty this year. Last year was so dry we never really got any lush fields. That wet-weather creek has flooded the pasture twice already this Spring. We can't use those pastures if its been raining much, as that creek floods quickly and completely cuts off the barn. Ivanna is *extremely* friendly. I took a couple pics of just her nostrils.LOL!!
This past winter was a tough one as I'm sure it was for most. It was hard looking at the skinny herd as we rationed the hay. But with the spring grass the herd is fleshing up very nicely.

x 2, did you get a pre-fab setup? Those run pretty high... wondering if you rigged up a home grown home growing system....

Just curious to know if the dam of the jersey/belt cross had white on her. Friend crossed his jerseys with one of my registered belted bulls and noticed if jersey was all brown most likely got a solid calf. If jersey had alittle white the calf had atleast a partial belt.

What a milky looking herd! Thanks for taking us along. BTW who is the matiarch in the herd? We always had one bossy. Usually a good old aged cow.
