if you can afford Stafix, buy that brand...if not Parmak...made in USA I think and they just keep on working...buy the most joules you can afford...and if you need a solar charger get the biggest one that Parmak makes..I have found that Jeffers usually has the best prices...
buy the Stafix fence compass for when you have a short or a grounded out spot...it will save you a lot of walking...
do not bother with Patriot anything...they are disposable according to the repairman...and I just do not have money to keep replacing energizers...I do have one Zareba that is a small portable unit that I have used with the electronet...and around the house here to keep the donkeys in the yard, when they are in charge of mowing the lawn....that unit is OK, but ants keep trying to move in and take over....
read and install the ground rods correctly and you should be good...
I am using all Parmak units in our different pasture areas...and the boxes are in the barns....the solar one is mounted on a post and serves an area that does not have electric nearby...so far it does very well, year three....and I only wish it had more joules...but the cows are good with it...

Electric if you have electric available, they will also be a third of the price of a solar box

Been running this box for 8 years now, never a problem. Livestock respect it's potential and so do I....Topside

Love parmak for solar. I used the smaller one for several years on my 3 acre pasture and net fence. I decided to get the bigger one recently because (human) kids keep jumping the fence. I am still using the other one for my other pasture. Running strong for 3-4 years now.
zereba solar need to be replaced after 1-2 seasons.

I use a parmak dc fencer and mc battery. With a solar battery charger that is big enough to run fencer and charge battery. Little more than 1/2 the cost of solar fencer.

I am curious. Does any one have an idea what it costs to run a plug in fence charger?

The metal can I had would only fit a MC battery a large one. Don't leave batteries outside unprotected. And mc batteries are cheaper and big enough to run a fencer for about a week. no sun. Remember to drill holes in bottum of can battery needs to breathe.

We have always ran a 12 volt fence charger off what ever old battery we had around that would hold a charge, they will run a charger about a good month usually.

I was having trouble with my goats getting out of the fence. They would jump through between pulses. I found a Zareba charger that has a continuous shock and I dont have any trouble now. Better be around the first couple days I had one fall on fence line and had to unplug it till he got up. I have 3 calves who don't test it anymore.

Parmak is the best I have found so far.
However, I have had several people tell me about these, 2 year warranty, from what I can tell, if they do need repair, the repair is fairly inexpensive...
Yep they are pricy... but they don't even sell those small joule or two chargers.

I have had very good success with Kencove chargers. They have the fence "compass" for them as well. Their service has been excellent! I didn't put in lightning protection at first and it blew a fuse, they fixed it and sent it back. (They do come with a warranty for lightning protection.) Then, my helper yanked the cord out of it while I was away and hooked it up backwards, blowing the fuse again. I sent it back with a note of what happened, they fixed it at no cost and didn't charge return postage.

My cattle (and goats) are on leased land 4 miles from the house, so I had a completely separate electric drop installed.
4-5kw per month
$5 minimum service charge per month . . .
I almost flipped the one month they actually measured the electricity instead of "estimating" my monthly service and charged me $6 because I had used 24kw since their last visit 5 months ago
