question about a jersy heiffer bagging up

Got a question. my jersey heiffer is 14 months old today. Her udder looks like its bagging up, its rounding out and nipples have gotten longer, and its confusing me. Has anyone had a heiffer do this. The only bull she has been around was when she was a baby, and i butched him in august which would have made her 5 months old. Have you heard of a 5 mo old being bred by a 1000 lb bull without it hurting them? IF she is bred, am is this going to be a disaster since she is bagging already

It's possible for her to be bred at that age. I dont know about the size of the bull vs the heifer however. But I have a jersey x guernsey heifer that accidentally got bred at 7 mos and did fine. I have heard of them being bred that early and doing ok. I would keep a close eye, you want to be there when she calves of course.

I have a cow at the house that had her first calf at the ripe old age of 14 months old. YES, it's possible for her to breed at that age. I'd guess by the pics she's bagging up. Some heifers leather up a little during heat cycles, but that looks like a milk bag. Do you have rear end pics to go along with these udder pics? Sometimes a heifer will bag up for 6 months or might wait until 6 days to bag up.

Sure looks pregnant to me. From the angle, she even looks a little barrel shaped.

my guess would be you have close to 2 weeks give or take just from what all our heifers look like before they have a calf and shes about there

yes there is a rare chance she is gonna milk with out a baby but all my years of farming i only heard of one guy that had one do that we never had one do that and we have had 1000s of heifers calf

is her vavla swollen any more than normal is her bag tight to the touch

and yes they can be breed at 5 months not good but it can happen we wait at least 12 months before we start breeding some of the smaller ones we wait 14 months on we had a 6 month old bull get out and got 4 pregnet all under a year old and they had the calf but it was very hard on them if it ever happens again were giving an abortion shot just because of the pain we went through with the 4 and the cows never did milk very good and took them longer to get rebreed wasnt fun

My heifers were coming into heat at 5 months. One of the rascals went thru a 4 strand barb wire fence to get to the bull. We got her out of there pretty fast and fortunately it was soon enough or we would be in your shoes right now.

Good luck and hopefully she will hold off until you get back and have an uneventful birth.

My husband and I both think she looks pregnant. We have had 15 month olds give birth my mother in law had a 13 month old have a baby it's not good but it does happen. She really looks bagged up I would have her checked by the vet if you have to leave town

Learn what you can about the bull's calving ease. Get the Vet to ultrasound her. Give her a shot of selenium. It helps the cow and her calf in enduring a tough delivery.

I heard from his neighbor- the heifer ended up delivering a bull calf what must have been later that day? Anyways, whatever day was Sunday. Calf had to be pulled but both mom and son are otherwise doing okay

I had my jersey heifer deliver her first calf at 14 months old. I had bought a young bull, I had turned him out with the cows. I thought he was to young (6 month Dexter) with the Jerseys... turned out they were not to young All went fine, but I was worried!
