My new calf!

So here is Porter!

He's quite the little chunk, and is doing great for us. The farmer had him on his mom until we bought him. He wasn't rejected, but the farmer had no problem selling to us! Yay!

Now if spring will ever get here, he can go outside. Right now we have 5 inches of snow.

He's very cute, but is he old enough to be weaned?

Thanks everyone

No, he's not weaned. He had a 24hr hunger strike, then decided milk-replacer was good enough

The seller said to feed as much as he wants, that he will stop when he's full....but we've bottle fed many, many calves & found that just invites trouble! We are feeding 1.5 gallons, in 4 feedings. So 3 regular sized bottles a day. He's doing great on that.

He's also already chewing his cud! We saw him do it once so far. He has really nice second cutting leafy grass hay in front of him at all times. We're also starting him on calf manna today.

After about a week bring the four feeding to 3 just more per feeding. One larger gap at night to get him eating hay and grass. give him a small salt block and You should have a really nice bull in due time.
