Hiefer Calf pictures

These girls are in the barn next to my goats, on goats milk. The Pure Jersey is up to a gallon and a half a day of goats milk. The Jersey/Milking Shorthorn is still being worked up, she is at a gallon and a quarter at the moment. She is about a month younger, but just as big. I just love having two such pretty girls to look at while I milk the goats.

Duckys daughter, Purebred registered Jersey, not named yet.

Those are two nice looking heifer calves. This is just exactly what bottle babies should look like! It looks like goat milk sure is agreeing with them and they are enjoying each others company.

Emily. Those are some good looking calves. For some reason I was thinking you had moved away and were helping your sister dairying in Kansas. Are you still selling a few heifers a year?

I need to come up with another weined heifer. If you end up having any, let me know please. I don't know how far you are from me as I'm not sure where you're at now.

Thanks.

Hey Francismilker,
I did move late 2011. But I only moved about an hour away. I am dairying with my sister and brother-in-law. So I am still in southern central Missouri.

We do sell a few heifers a season, but this year it was *very* few. We have had a bull year, and have kept most of the heifers we did get. We rarely sell them weaned, usually as bottle calves, but sometimes weaned ones do become available. If thats not too far away from you, let me know and I'll keep you in mind.

Emily, Yes keep me in mind. I don't mind raising a bottle heifer but you're too far for me imho to truck or trailer one that's on a bottle. I've done it before and have ended up with pnuemonia or scours from stress. A heifer that is still on the bottle would be fine provided it is 150-175lbs. I'd just hate to pick up a newborn and haul it 350 miles. I'm a 300 mile drive from Springfield. How much further are you East? It may be way too far for me to make it happen anyway. Gasoline has gotten so high I'd have to add lots of cash to her value before I got her home. I just like those MS crosses with some color on them. I have a few jersey girls we've raised this year and last I just want some of that deep red color.
