Finally Got Some Pictures(Lots)

So we started calving about 10 days ago, I finally had a chance to get out with my camera and take some photos. The calves are growing pretty good so far. Our BW's are down again this year, we had a pretty warm winter again. The white tags are heifers and the orange are steers.

Couple of 10 day old calves. BA and RA x Shorthorn

Here's a pretty good looking Angus cow, except for her udder. She has about the worst udder in the herd, but she can raise a calf and does it without assistance so we'll keep her around for now. BA x BA/SM

A fairly nice 3 year old we bought as a first calver. Nice udder and a good calf raiser.

One of these things is not like the others..... This cow came from DH's nephew. She's a mix of Hereford, Angus and Charolais. The calf is Shorthorn sired. It is the first grey calf she's ever had.

Isn't it amazing how they can lay down like that, so close to baby without hurting them (usually). Not really necessary today though! HH/BA x BA

3 year old that originally came from Coyote. She is SS x BA and the calf is sired by a Shorthorn bull (also from Coyote)

One of my favorite 3 year olds. The only heifer we got off her sire, and I think I need to look up his bloodlines as I really like her. HH/BA x RA

Pretty sweet little heifer calf. She was a little to inquisitive to get a good photo of her! HH x RA

Adding some char into the mix now?

Gosh, your photos are great.
Thanks for sharing them.
Looks like a pretty even mix on genders this year. Or is it too soon to tell yet?

Gone a milking, just that 1 cow, and an adoptee calf is all the char we have. But we're custom calving 120 head that were bred Char. So far we are way higher on the bull calves.

Thanks Suzy!

Great looking calves, they sure seem bright eyed and healthy.

Great looking bunch. Nice to see warm temps and snow melting isn't it. As far as the ratio of bull calves to heiffer, do you find that the earlier calves are more bulls and then the later ones even out the ratio?

Thanks guys.

Ks, it would be nice if the warm weather would stay. Only got yesterday, and now we are in for a storm for the next 4 or 5 days. Supposed to get up to 20" of snow

Usually the heifers are the first ones born. Some years we have more heifers and some more bulls. Last year we had probably 20 more bull calves than heifers.

Looks like everyone was feeling good. Nothing like warm sunshine on new born calves.
