Cattle prices in your area?

I was just looking at the last months reports from the local auction barn and the prices are really low. Several animals have sold for under 30 cents a pound. Saw a few went for less then 10 cents a pound. There were steers at 600-700 pounds selling for 50 cents a pound. When I sold mine in October I got 1.43 a pound. Is it a local thing or have prices really dropped that much?

I have a group of my cows I finally got my mother in law to agree to sell but I don't want to give them away pairs went for 1000-1200 I was selling cows alone for 1800 last spring and summer when I wanted to sell this small group.

This is a little distance from us but this is where we purchased feeder calves before.

I don't know where you are, but I don't know of anyplace selling cattle for those prices. Must have been a misprint. Maybe left the $1 off the front end of the price.. The prices you got last October are still pretty close today anywhere I know of.

there are some at that price around here but they are skin and bones and the sellers finally realized they could not afford them anymore, they are the exception thankfully. bred cows are down about 150 bucks over fall but with the continued drought nobody wants to take a chance right now. calves are still selling good providing they are fleshy.

I'm not sure what they looked like as i was not at the last to auctions but I do not think they would have typos online and in the sale report they mail out. I just havn't seen many low prices here before. Craigslist price still look good. Our area is very short on hay I had to drive 4 hours one way to 32 tons of hay. I feed about 60 a year I'm just glad I planned ahead

Was talking to my boss last week ... average-sized dairy culls here are bringing about $1,000.

Butcher cows all sell by the hundred weight. Most of the cows were weighing between 1300 and 1600 p-ounds. The holsteins brought from $79 to $88 per hundred. Black cows only sold a few cents higher. What they call canners and cutters brought from $40 to $60 per hundred. If you are selling nice bred beef cows they sell by the head.
If you are selling springing holstein heifers they also sell by the head. Last week they brought between $1100 and $1600 per head.
Black feeders went for $1.18 to $1.23
Holsteins were about 10 cents per pound lower.
Top for fat cattle was $1.24 for blacks and $1.14 for the holsteins.
