2 weeks late/ 3 yr Jersey/ first calf

No sign of bagging up. Her belly is sure big and hanging. She eats lots of good hay and grain, but looks bony; more than usual. She aborted her first calf midterm last summer. Should I be worried or just wait?

Are you 100% sure she's bred? Was she palpated?

If she's definitely bred and not yet bagging up, I'd just watch and wait. Sometimes, cows don't bag up til after they calve. If she goes into labor and nothing happens for several hours, that's when you need to be more hands on. I'd be sure to have access to oxytocin and calcium gluconate, just in case.

No palpitation. But she has not been in season since we bred her and she has gotten a very large belly. I am not sure Doc will give me Oxy. Were do I get the calcium gluconate?

If she aborted last summer (when?), she would probably not have rebred for a few weeks at the earliest (depending on why she aborted, I imagine). So how could she be 2 weeks late now? Timing sounds way off. I'd get the vet to check her.

And, yes, Oxytocin is Rx through the vet.

Sorry I meant the summer before. She was bred April 18th in 2012.

She may be cystic and not cycling and has a huge belly because she is 3 years old, open, and fat.

Or it could be that she bred the cycle after and isn't due quite yet.
