Maggie had her calf

Maggie had her calf. She is so far back in the trees that she loves to lay in with pine needles as a bed floor that I can't get close enough to see if it is a heifer or bull...it is a red calf. When she disappeared this morning I knew this was it

The calf was nursing though. Pics as soon as I can...probably tomorrow.

Yeah, don't pressure the calf. If it's anything like mine, it will LOVE to hide in the tall weeds and brush for the next 2 weeks. If you approach it, it will bolt for the next county regardless of barbwire or electric fences or combinations of the above!

Don't ask me how I know

After about 2 weeks, it will join the herd and all will be well. Good Luck!

Congrats. Has it been 8 weeks already. If she has had a calf before she may wait only a couple of days then show it off to everybody. My money is on a bull.

I don't know I thought about the 8 weeks but did not go find that post yet I will do that here in a few minutes

2nd calf. Last one born December 2011.

I betting a heifer!

The last one she had she had out in the open and 2 other cows tried to steal her baby...this time she is hidden

Okay, I posted on 11/30 that she turned from a football about a week before. So about 10 weeks...right?

Its a heifer...but pics did not turn out...will have to try again. And in the light of day instead of a dark red...I believe it is more a brown.

Congratulations, she's cute (all Highlands are). We just had a little red bull calf ourselves last night. My wife's Valentines present. After she got flowers and we went to dinner

She will be a dark red or brindle. (cannot see the nose) I have never seen a highland with white feet like that. and you have 2.

Arkle is the father of both (Charlotte and Patience)...he has a white tipped tail as does several others. Charlotte's mom was not highland...just the dad.

Patience mom Maggie (full highland) and Arkle (Full Highland) and she did get the white feet...not sure where that came from.

I think its neat.

I have seen the lighter color tipped tail have several. But not white. and not the feet. Waiting on a heifer to calf. She is our shy one she stands back at the trough and for brushing. But if no one is around she will come up to you and let you scratch her.

Here is a pic of Arkle's sire...Arkle of Ousdale. As you can see he does have white on his tail...Arkle's is not that prominent. This is not the greatest pic but the best I could find on line. My Arkle (Arkle the 2nd of Lost Nation) is an embryo transplant that resulted from embryos that were imported from Scotland.
