Charlotte

Have a couple of questions.

The other cows seem to be running Charlotte...they won't let her eat hay with them or lay with them. This has been going on for a couple of months now. I'm not sure what to do. She seems depressed and lays off by herself...and then when she does try to hang with the other cows they run her and sometimes hard.

She lost a baby back in May. Thread here but would think that too much time has passed to be depressed from that...just not sure.

Is separating her by herself the answer? Cause I would surly think that she would be more depressed by doing that.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Is Charlotte younger than the others? I have found it's sometimes difficult to put a youngster in with older cows; they seem to do much better with their own age group.

Can you rule out any physical reason why Charlotte isn't doing so well? Is there another cow in the group that gets along with Charlotte? If so, perhaps try putting them together. I agree that isolating her by herself is not the way to go. They need a buddy. If you have weanlings or young heifers, they might make even better companions for her.

Charlotte was 3 in November.

Yes, she gets along with Maggie (6) and Clemintine (12).
No, she does not get along with Wingding (6) Latte (3) and Armstrong 16 months.

I have Patience who was a year in December along with another calf separated...but they are in electric wire and Charlotte went right through that when she first came here and has been in board fence since. I would have to make another separation for her and maybe Patience...but I don't think Maggie cause she is due soon and not sure about that.

Wingding will be leaving shortly. She is 6 and has not had a baby...she is going to be dinner...as soon as I can get an appointment...which they are booked up right now. Wingding is flighty and may be the problem. After she is gone...everything may be okay...I'm not sure about that either...ugh!
