Unbred Older Heifer

Was at the local Livestock auction today. A absolute beautiful bovine in one of the pens. Not a youngster, but: No sheaf, no udder showing ect. Looked like a mature cow, but no udder could be seen. I'm not the only person ducting around looking. Well it goes through the ring, turns out to be a never bred, registered Angus heifer. She was named Suzy and from what was announced she was a 6 year old bottle raised pet. Could this cow/heifer be bred at that age with any success. She brought $700.

Depending upon her health and condition, yes.

She was something, looked like she was going in the show ring instead of the auction ring. Even her hooves were nice and shiny. If my fences were up, she would have come home with me. Also a group of eleven couple day old holisten heifers were sold, they went for $55 dollars each. The little bulls went for $15.

If she looked really good, she was probably too fat to breed. That's why they like to breed them young.

I have a going-on-6-year-old Holstein/Angus heifer.. I don't need any more calves (cows are expensive pets!) so she has never been exposed to a bull, but I have no reason to believe she wouldn't breed if given the opportunity.

the heifer looks good because she is only growing herself all the feed is going to her growth and none to grow a calf......if both cows bred and unbred are given the same feed the unbred will grow bigger and have no drain on there system......you can drive around in your field and spot the unbred cows or heifers using this same system....not on the cow that always looks great but on the 2 year old heifer that looks twice as good as her herdmates

lots of women in this qroup what if when you were expecting you could only eat as much as your not expecting friend..then your body would still break down giving the baby what it needed....like when womens hair falls out

and if those go threw my sale barn everybody knows she has been freeloading for a year

I would never buy a six year old heifer. Number one, she's already four calves in the red. Number two, if she's that old and not proven I don't want to spend the money on an experiment. She may be beautiful, but if she's a registered angus going for $700 then I would say that a pet is probably all that she would be good for. I wouldn't have bought her.
