Indiana Guernseys

There's a dairy with registered Guernseys selling out near Evansville. I've sent him an email. If he responds, anyone here interested in a heifer or cow?

I always hate to hear that someone is selling out. I hope his cows all find new homes and continue to breed.

I've emailed them. Have had no response yet, but they might just be busy. I have little sister looking for a phone number. Herd average is around 16k, so might have some good family cow prospects.

If they have any prices let me know. It's a bit of a hike for me, but if the price is right on a family cow or heifer....

Let me know (pm) where it is, E'ville is only an hour from here and I would be happy to drive down and take a look, or some photos, if he's willing.

Here we go: Ron Martins, (812) 431-3646. That's his cel, and he gave me permission to put it out here.

He has 29 cows and heifers for sale. He said he wouldn't sell anything that he wouldn't buy himself.

Leave me ONE, please, .lol.

Sorry, I've been on the phone with him, so I've been tying up the phone.

He's got a bred heifer for $900

He has another breeding-age heifer for $900

Cows are around $1100-$1300 each. Now, remember, these cows are in a free-stall barn, but he's taking his problem cows to the slaughter plant. These will be milkers.

Litttle calves will be $300-$350, depending on size. He has a couple of bull calves.

He has NO Red Holstein in his herd. These are purebred, registered Guernseys.

Here is the house phone so you can leave a message: (812)768-6743.

He uses AI exclusively, so no big bulls. He's been milking since grade school, and is 47. Maybe he might get out and see some of the world now, lol.

I'm thinking of going Teusday. Now that I've given everyone his number, I've got to get there fast to get my new baby. (s)

John,
What is your interest? Cows, heifers, or calves?

Those are great prices. Just go to the Guernsey assoc site and look at the prices they got at auction for registered guernseys. Sounds like a great opportunity.

Oh man, I wish I lived closer. I would take a baby heifer in a heartbeat. Wanna grab one for me Judy when you're there and meet me at the Michigan/Indiana border?
