Question Anyone used HOMEGROWNCOW.COM?

Looking at this on-line marketing site out of Romulus, MI - other meats are listed too, there's only one seller for beef in our state. (Haven't tried to contact them yet) Wondering if they really have a customer base. Evidently they don't pay search engines, didn't show for me with various consumer searches.

If they just started they wont show. All I can say is try to find someone who has delt with them and see if they are happy or place a small order and check them out if not satisfied don't go back.

Thanks Black Willow Farm, I hadn't looked at the Local Harvest site in a long time, and didn't even know about Eat Wild.

Hi RedDirt Cowgirl,

We are so pleased you are considering using Home Grown Cow's farmers' market to purchase meat. We are based out of Evansville, Wisconsin with our IT coming from our partner in San Francisco, and additional marketing from Colorado Springs. We are still very young and very small and rely on word of mouth. Having said that, we are pleased to have hundreds of farmers listed with us (not all have inventory available at this time and so do not appear), as well as hundreds and hundreds of "Eaters".

When you purchase from a farmer through Home Grown Cow, you can know that the farmer is paying NOTHING to list with us and is allowed to set their own prices. 85% of your money goes straight to the farmer rather than to some lengthy national supply chain. Of the 15% remaining, aprox. 5% goes to credit card transaction fees. Without this service, many farmers are unable to accept credit card payments. Additionally, we offer unparalleled customer service to both our farmers and our eaters by assisting eaters in locating exactly what they want. If the farm you selected had forgotten to remove a product as sold-out, we will find another farmer who does have the item in stock and offer it to you, sometimes cold-calling a farm who is often thrilled to learn of us while making an unexpected sale! Additionally, we assist the farmers by arranging shipping, should a customer chose this convenience. We have negotiated reduced shipping rates, and provide detailed instructions on packaging should the farmer request advice. Finally, for the eater, we hold their funds until they have received the meat they ordered and it is as expected. Should a discrepancy arise, we work with both the farmer and eater to find an agreeable solution. This removes any awkwardness between buyer and seller and maintains the relationship. And once people taste farm fresh hand-raised meats, they will return, and as demand increases this way of farming will survive against the pressures of industrial farming.

Currently, for the month of December, we are offering a discount through a coupon code: FOODIE The discount is 5%, but since we only make 10% per sale, that's kind of like 50% off.

Our general thought is if we treat people right, success will follow.

I hope this helps introduce you to Home Grown Cow. I understand we have had some comments on the Better Business Bureau website. Also, please feel free to contact us directly to answer any additional questions or to put you in touch with references.

Sincerely,

Karen

Can see I didn't make myself clear in this thread - we're looking for tools to SELL beef. Last local effort for a USDA approved processing plant stalled at the mega-million costs. So everyone is still running to the stockyards, costs of delivering a profitable bunch is ever climbing - seems like nothing much is new in the cattle biz...

(PS: It was nice to get a response from HGC, looks like they're building a good reputation with consumers)

RedDirt Cowgirl,

Would love to hear from you to see how we can help you. We invite any meat or cheese producing farmers to list with us, again it costs the farmer NOTHING. Transparency is our thing over certifications etc. Please feel free to contact us at: 608-957-8883 even if you don't list with us, it never hurts to network.

Thanks,

Karen

Thanks for replying on this thread Karen, we'll be contacting you after the holidays. My inquiry was pursuant to our receiving your sellers outreach postcard.
