Thanks for this listing.

Question: Armstrong was born brown and is still brown will he stay this way and is this not a recognized color?

And this is for people who like to call these mini cattle. He is not mini by any standard. This is our first herd sire Thunder 5 yrs. at the time. That is a 20 foot stock trailer. 7 by 7 inside. 1800 plus lbs. No longer fit through a standard chute or head gate, shoulders were to wide. But as gentle as a kitten. I have seen him pick up the side of a 45 hp tractor just rubbing on it. And toss a 6x6 round bale 3 ft in the air playing with it. So remember they maybe cute and cuddly, But they are very capable of doing serious harm like any cow.

Thankyou so much for the color pictures I have been looking for good examples. I have black, red and dun in my herd now and had a yellow steer. I think your arnold is a brindle, I have a calf that looks a whole lot like him she is 9 months old and is streaky not sure if she is changing to black or will stay this way.

Where are you located. We do trades from time to time so If I have something you want and have something to trade we may be able to work something out. WE have a sliver and Brindle register-able Bulls. Our daughter has a reg. Angus cow and a dun High-Angus cow.

They will only turn black if their nose and hooves are black when born. Skin color does not change only hair color.

Space Cadet,

He's a big boy, and they can get even larger. There are some genetics out there though that are smaller. We've traveled quite far to get them. This is our bull, 6 years old, 790 lbs and 43" tall at the rear hip. He's smaller than all but two of our girls, one of whom is his sister.

Our current herd sire is like that a Dun bull 3 yrs old and weighs about 1100 lbs ~ 43 in at shoulders.Highlands weigh more than you think those short little legs are deceiving. And they are thick. I have people he don't weigh more than 900 lbs put them on a scale and they weigh almost 1300 or more. There are 3 frame sizes to highlands small (800- 1000) med. (1000-1300) and large (1300- up) for cows. Nice yellow bull (Yellow Brindle). Hard to tell with the shade.

We actually weighed him by a scale with the car and trailer with a full tank of gas, then car and trailer with him in it with a full tank of gas.

He's put on a bit more weight since that photo and when we weighed him, I would guess a 150-200 lbs. max. He's a faint brindle. This past calving season we got three whites, two duns, two reds, two yellows, and a black out of him and his girls of all colors (no more silver animals now, he was sold).

We've been working with high percentage Highlands following the initial cross with our Dexter bull, who's sire a many time grand champion Dexter cow.
These are the results...87.5% Highland, 2 years old, 34" tall. They're a little over a year old in this photo. I doubt they'll get much taller than my waist fully grown.

I asked Santa for a milk cow for Christmas. I'd gladly take a highland, please
Then my hairy pony (gypsy) could have a hairy cow companion.

They are also great at defending themselves from stray dogs and wolves. Or at least protecting the calves. A buddy has some and we have found dead dogs in the field where they were before. Watched him chase off a wolf pack this fall and found blood on his horns. 3 german shepherds started chasing calves one day, none of them made it out of the field.

We had a highland at 3 yrs old weighed in at 505 lb. about 34 in. Her mom was our biggest cow 48in. 1526 lb. and she was over protective I was the only one allowed in the pasture.
I could walk in grab the calf and walk out.she Would greet everyone else at gate and lunge at them if they tried to come in. That is a Nice looking herd (fold). This her at 3 yrs old.
