Nursing

Just this morning as I was watching the fold I noticed that Armstrong (yearling born Sept 2011) was nursing. Holy smokes.

I do need to move him correct. I'm pretty sure Latte (his mom) is pregnant again and its not good to still have Armstrong nursing.

Good idea to separate him because he is way past needing milk and Latte will need to have colostrum for her new calf...when is she due? They always find a way to mess up our plans, don't they?

They surely do. Honestly I do not know when she is due. The bull is always with the cows. So I do not always get to see the action

But I was pretty sure Armstrong was way to old for nursing.

That's a pretty good sign that you'll be expecting a calf soon. We had a Highland bull do the same thing after being weaned for 4 months, but when his mom came back into milk just before calving he was nursing (and trying to mount her). A week or two later she calved.

It gets hard trying to manage who goes where sometimes when things like this pop up....more fencing, additional places to have both water and hay, etc...

Thanks LakePort I will keep closer watch on Latte.

Also I'm pretty sure Maggie is due soon also. She has been beating her backside with her horns alot lately and she did that before she calved the last time and it looks like her pelvic area is sinking. I will get the birthing area ready that is for sure.

Just my luck it will be months lol. I'm not too good at this part yet.

We had one start nursing again after mom calved. Mom let it go on for about 2 weeks then one day I was outside and it sounded like someone hit the barn with a bat. Nope Rosie weaned Moon again with a hoof print on her forehead. (highlands)
