Sold and loaded my Highland bull

I was so nervous even though he is sooo laid back. 4 1/2 yrs old ,has been here since he was a yearling, never loaded since. I know bulls can flip out and I loaded a half Angus before and he wanted back out of the trailer in the worst way. And he's at least 1600lbs.
But Doone was a Gentleman all the way, said my prayers, had some cattle panels(coral panels) set up like an ally , against posts and chute (didn't wanna use chute due to big horns) got him used to it day before (bribe with sweet feed!) and he went in even with the trailer backed up to it , put a pipe behind his butt, told the 3 guys to be quiet and let this girl handle it and just close the door if he's in.
Went in the trailer , had a nice bale of hay and grain and bribed him in. took a few minutes but everything was nice and calm and even after shutting the door he behaved. Thank you Lord!
He's gonna be in a huge pasture with barn and 7 Cows to breed ,so he should be happy. I will miss the big Lug, but got a new one to breed his daughters.
myersfarm likes this.

Nice when it all works out calmly and successfully, isn't it? Sounds like he won the lottery!

I miss our first Highland Bull he was easy to load grab his ear or tip of his horn say lets go. And out the gate walk over to the trailer tell him get on and on he would go turn around a wait for you to shut the door. His horns where almost as wide as he was tall. You could scratch or brush him and he would fall asleep standing there. His favorite thing to eat was honey suckle he cleared about 500ft of fence of it ate right to the ground. Sold him to a guy with about 20 highlands and 40 red white face.

Yeah!!! It is nice!
SpaceCadet,my Hay people were amazed when I halter trained the last almost yearling bull I sold and they hauled, in 2 or 3 days just a 1/2 hr a day, and led him on the trailer, no problem at all.
They told me it couldn't be done, they have Herefords.
I think they came real close to changing to Highlands !

I trained one in 1 1/2hrs. in one day next day guy came to pick him up. Walked right up to him put the halter on hooked up the lead walked him up to momma let him nurse and say good-bye to mom and loaded him onto the trailer no fuss. Guy couldn't believe it. They are easy going cattle.
