We have babies! with pictures

We have been on calf watch for a week. Both our heifers were due last sunday. We had been anxiously waiting to see our first calves born here on the farm. And, wouldnt you know it, after watching them for a week, my wife had an appendicitis saturday night and we spent all saturday night and all day sunday at the hospital for her to have surgery. And, after a week of watching the first calve dropped while we were at the hospital. But, surgery went good and as we got home from the hospital, I had to pull the van to the edge of the field so my wife could see the baby.

Here they are. These are first calves for both of them. We bred both to a beautiful black bull we borrowed from a neighbor.

This one is a heifer calf, the second one, we arent sure what it is yet.

Cute as can be, look alert and healthy too. Super job for your heifers to both have them on their own and take right to motherhood. Ain't it great when everything goes right?

Yea! So happy for you! Nothing better than Momma's having their babes all by themselves and everything turning out great!

We were worried about the black and white heifer having hers as her hips are real narrow, but even though her calf is almost twice as big as the other, she was just fine. I think it helps we waited until they were past two years old to breed.

Thanks for the well wishes, my wife is doing great with recovery, just sore. Shes already walked out into the pasture several times to watch the babies, lol.
