Smile Makin hay while the sun shines

I have been a busy, busy guy this week. Cut hay Mon. and Tues. , Raked what I cut Mon. on Wen. , Thurs. baled, Friday raked and baled. Got a total of 110 round bales, and have more to go. Not bad for a middle aged guy with two bad knees, and man have my knees been bothering me. > Thanks Marc

Congratulations on the harvest.

We have been sitting quietly out of Natures way while Isaac has been streaming a steady rain for the last couple days.
About 2" so far and it is still coming down. Nice and steady and slow. It is all soaking in and not running off down the rivers.
This should give the pastures a real boost.

What a great harvest. We have been working around the farm with our list of things that need to be done before winter. It always catches up to us somehow

Glad you're getting some hay after this rough summer. We're still hoping for our second cutting.

Finished our hay up yesterday. When it's all totalled up we baled about 105 round bales and we figure we need 100 for the year! Little closer than we like to be but at least we are not short. HOpefully the cows don't eat more than that!

I cut on Wednesday, raked on Friday and baled, hauled and stacked on Saturday. Exhausting work, but oh, so satisfying.

The barns look good, filled from floor to rafters with good green bales. I think we'll make it through winter.

What is more satisfying than baling my own hay, is having a 16 year old boy tell me that he admired how I put up my hay so well that he bought some old haying equipment and is now baling his own hay. Selling enough to pay for the equipment and fuel.

There's just something right about that. There should be more kids like him.

With all the rain we have had here the last few weeks, I am so far behind want catch up for a while. Issac dumped nearly 6 inches on us last week. Most fields are waist deep and knee high thick.

We have had around three inches of rain in the last three weeks. And we got nothing from issac, we were just on the north edge of it. It was cloudy all day yesterday and had a few sprinkles, but that was it. We have more hay to make, and the rain was sure welcome. We are also going to have an antique tractor plowing day next Saturday, then we are going to put that ground into wheat. Should be a fun day. > Thanks Marc

Ah the blessing of hay!!! Takes a drought year to make me appreciate it fully I guess.
Congrats on the hay, Marc!

All I can say is I am jealous! The drought has been real hard here and not enough growth to even feed the cows, certainly not enough to bale.

Marc, you want to sell some hay?
