My Highlands

Please excuse the field. Our bushhog is broke. We either have to purchase a new one or find someone to do it for now.

Here is my Maggie Girl peeking through the fence looking for more bread...she loves bread

Wingding (I didn't name her...) She was 5 in May and still no heifer. Little worried about her.

They are beautiful. Really neat looking. I have never seen a highland before. I think this is the breed used in the movie "Rob Roy". I saw it years ago but they look like it if I am remembering right.

Latte is just absolutely disgusting looking. Save yourself and mail her to me I love highlands. Wonder how they'd do with the southern heat/humidity?

You're welcome

I'm not far from the TN/VA state line. My husband's work takes him as far as exit 205 off 81 in VA

I love seeing them! And I agree that Latte is great (what a perfect name). Do you need special facilities with Highlands?

We do not have special facilities. We have 17 acres and we use 13 acres for the cattle...ours and some that belong to someone else. The cattle is separated. The other 4 acres we have our garden, small orchard, chickens, etc. We did leave space at the bottom of the 4 acres in case we need to expand. There is also a barn on the 13 acres for them to use...but they stay under the trees most of the time.

We have a problem with Arkle. He jumps the fence and goes over to the other cattle. Either the one's here or the back field. Hopefully we have the fence fixed this time so he can't go over the back one again. We are adding electric to the top of the rest of the fence. He is a handful. The others we have no problems out of.

My highlands do fine in North Alabama. They do become fairly nocturnal during the summer, and drind a lot of water. Mine are Black. As far as special facilities, I don't have any. But I only use barbed wire. They love to scratch on 48" web wire. And you don't have to have a shed in winter.
