My very first calf is here...

I found the calf on Sunday. I thought none of my cows were due for another 2 weeks so I hadnt been worried about it. I was VERY startled to see a calf. So now I am watching my other cows much more closely. I didnt post earlier because I knew I wasnt allowed to post until I had pictures lol. And I got pictures today. I was able to get a real good close look at it today and its for sure a heifer! Her momma is dexter/jersey and her daddy is registered dexter.

Nice cow and calf but you better get to milking if you haven't already started.

No milking for me. I live 6 miles away from my cows and no way I could consistently get out there to milk her. Which is a shame because she was hand milked for a year before I bought her a year and a half ago...so she is well used to it. And she is really really tame. She was hand raised in someones basement. Someday I plan to live where they live...but for now i am stuck in town.

Good looking calf. The first one is kind of a thrill, isn't it?

Well I bought the bull in October and I guess he musta had his winter coat on. He looked really red...stayed red all winter. And now he looks more tan then anything. I dont know if he is sun bleached or what. He suddenly just changed colour on me and I had to do a double take to make sure someone else hadnt jumped my fence. So right now he is kinda tanish red lol! I will have to get a picture of the beast tomorrow. He has horns too.

The calf looks like he will be either black or dark jersey color. I bet the sire is black, as in Dexters blacks that carry the red gene often get a "reddish tint" to their coat. Looking forward to the pics. And, cute CUTE calf you got there.
