Belted offer.

Oh how I wish I was closer to being avle to move back to our retirement farm in Okla. We are now in Tennessee. Wife has to(wants to!) work two more years before she will concider doing so.
Anyway a neighbor who buys and sells cattle has abull and three heifers of dun belted calves for sale for #1300 dollars! They are around three to four hundred pounds, with the bull maybe a little more. Would make a beautiful little starter herd! I just don't have any place to keep them till we get moved.
Have a newbie stupid question. Will banks loan money on cattle purchases these days? I've know several bankers who made their money on cattle but of course they would know how to use the banks to their advantage. But is it possible for an everyday Joe to get money to buy cattle. Are the cattle used as colatiral?(spelling?)

Without a background in cattle and you having to rent a pasture plus the draught affecting the corn prices I think a bank would pass on the loan...

Yeah I figured I wouldn't be able to get a loan ,I was just wondering if it is still possible in todays market to be able to get cattle loans. I know you used to could.
Also I forgot to mention that these belted calves are in middle Tennessee if anyone in this area might be interested. Like I said it would be a good start up herd if your interested in one of the rare breeds. Just let me know and I can tell you who to contact.

Do you live in town or have an acreage? There are programs with the Farm Credit Services for beginning farmers that might help you get started. Just look for the nearest Farm Credit office, give them a call and ask. Worst they can do is say no right off the bat or else ask you to come in and talk. You'll need a plan and yes, they use the cattle as collateral. Good luck!
