Jersey Meat pick up (pic)

Picked up the Jersey meat from the processor today. 575# of take home meat a yield percentage of 56%. Waiting two years pays off...Topside

That's not a bad return right there. I've always heard that Jersey and Holstein are closer to 50% and beef breeds are up there at 55-60%. I suppose a few hundred pounds of corn makes a difference, but that's better than I'd expected!

Seddon, yes it is a roast. With the kids out of the house we rarely order one, but this time we did...Our last Jersey's yield was 450# so waiting 6 extra months sure made a difference...Thanks for asking....Topside

Hey topside, you only have to eat 1.6lbs of beef every day for the next year and you'll be ready to do it all over again. :-) Those steaks look mighty tasty. I've been wondering what Jersey beef looks like. Thanks for posting.

Here is a photo of the old boy @ 18months old. At 22 months old I started pounding the corn to him and then he was processed in June @ 24 months old....Topside

Thank you! I am interested in all your jersey beef photos. That is all I have now. One "steer" that I bought banded actually has one left. So he will be processed sooner than later. Probably at 14 months. Have him in a pen and feeding him grain.
