Just some pics

This is our bull. 3 yrs old, weighs around 1600 lbs. He is purebred Tarentaise.

This is a yearling heifer sired by the bull above.

The cow laying down with her new baby is also the dam of the heifer above. The black steer is Angus X Tarentaise and we have high hopes for the beef. The last one we had with that breeding was excellent. His last ride is coming up soon. He is grassfed. We don't have anything against grain finishing, we just don't have the facilities to separate him out and feed him out conventionally.

This is another Angus X Tarentaise, a bred heifer we sold earlier this year. She should be having her calf any time now and the new owner is supposed to call us. I think she is gonna make a real good brood cow for him.

Thanks for looking! Was saving some photo's and moving them around so decided to post a few.

Just look at the neck on that bull. He is very handsome.

Genetics are interesting and you can see the influences of both parents in that red heifer. Very cool.

I bet that steer is going to be good eating too.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Nice looking cattle, I also bet that steer will be yummy, you can`t feed them out any cheaper than grass fed. > God Bless America. > Thanks Marc

Very nice! Especially like the yearling heifer, look at the rear on her! Saw a couple of Tarentaise on exhibit at the VA Beef Expo a couple of weeks ago and was impressed. They have THE most beautiful eyes.

I've never heard of this breed, but like the looks of them, a lot.
Going right now to google them up.

Are your animals polled? When I googled up pics of the breed, I saw just a couple with horns.

The original fullblood Tarentaise are horned. We haven't had that "miracle mutation" happen yet like some other formerly horned breeds that now have polled fullbloods. (insert tongue in cheek)

There are a lot of polled Tarentaise cattle which have been bred up to purebred status. Some of ours are naturally polled, some are dehorned.

If it wasn't for the demands of the marketplace, we wouldn't bother to dehorn. I actually like the traditional look with horns, gives those pretty faces a "halo".

At what age do you dehorn the horned ones? Do you use a disbudding iron?

We have the vet dehorn them with the "scoop" when they are about 6 months old. He scoops out the horns and then cauterizes with a hot iron. That age gives them time to heal and recover from the stress before weaning. As gruesome a procedure as that is, they always bounce right back from it. Cattle are some tough critters!

When we were hauling our cows to a friend's for breeding, he dehorned by burning the buds at 2 months or so, so ours would get done along with his while they were there. It really is a better method of dehorning plus you save the vet charges, but we don't have the pens and chute that our friend does.
